The golden rule: don't forget 'Vertel ook'Speaking A2

On the Spreken exam, a perfect answer to the first half of the prompt is only half the job. Almost every item adds a second instruction starting with Vertel ook. Candidates lose points by giving a long, polished answer to part one and stopping before part two.

Luister naar de hele vraag

Always listen for the two-part structure. You might hear: Waar koopt u meestal brood? Vertel ook waarom.

That is one item, not two. Both halves count towards Taakuitvoering. Skip the follow-up and you forfeit roughly half of that item's points.

De veilige opbouw

Keep your answer short and structural. Give a direct answer to part one, link a simple connector like want, then answer part two.

Do not add extra sentences for decoration. Every extra clause is one more chance to break grammar. Two clean sentences beat five wobbly ones.

Key takeaway· 1 of 3
Listen carefully to the exact follow-up

The word after 'Vertel ook' tells you exactly what kind of information is required. If it asks 'wanneer', give a time or day. If it asks 'waarom', give a reason.

Wat doet u liever? Vertel ook wanneer. What do you prefer to do? Tell me also when.
Ik lees liever een boek, in het weekend.I prefer reading a book, in the weekend.
Use 'want' to securely link a reason

When asked 'waarom', the easiest way to answer fluently is to use 'want'. It means 'because', but unlike 'omdat', it keeps the standard word order. This reduces your chance of making a grammar mistake.

Ik ga naar de supermarkt, want het brood is lekker.I go to the supermarket, because the bread is tasty.
Stop speaking when the job is done

Long answers increase the chance of grammar mistakes. One sentence for the main question and one sentence for the 'Vertel ook' follow-up is enough to get full points.

Met wie oefent u Nederlands? Vertel ook wat u samen doet. With whom do you practice Dutch? Tell me also what you do together.
Ik oefen met mijn buurman. Wij drinken samen koffie.I practice with my neighbor. We drink coffee together.
