Retaking per section
You can retake a section of the exam if you did not pass that section. You do not need to retake sections you already passed.
That matters because the inburgeringsexamen is made up of separate parts. If one result is not enough, your next step is to book that part again with DUO.
Waiting time and booking
If you need another attempt, you book a new exam appointment with DUO for that section. The spec here does not give a fixed maximum number of retakes or a fixed waiting period between attempts.
That means you should check DUO for available dates and book as soon as you are ready. Waiting too long can add stress, especially if you are working toward your inburgering deadline under the Wet inburgering 2021.
If deadline pressure is part of your worry, there are official situations that can extend or pause your term under the Wet inburgering 2021. Examples in the current rules include childcare shortage, a PIP set while you are still in COA housing, working at least 32 hours a week for at least 6 months, and the birth of a child. For your own case, contact DUO or your gemeente (municipality).
Cancelling on time
If you book an exam and cannot attend, cancel or move it no later than 7 days before the exam date. Since 24 November 2025, that is the deadline for A2 exams.
If you miss that 7-day deadline, you forfeit the fee for that exam. So if you are sick, working unexpected hours, or not ready yet, check your booking date early and act before the deadline passes.
