The digital inburgeringsdiploma
From 1 January 2026, DUO gives your inburgeringsdiploma as a digital PDF by default. You download it in Mijn Inburgering / Mijn diploma's, instead of waiting for only a paper diploma by post.
This matters after you pass all A2 exam parts. If you need the diploma for naturalisation, the IND accepts the digital PDF for all naturalisation-related submissions.
You can still ask for a paper copy. The first paper copy is free. If you ask again later, DUO charges a fee. Paper delivery takes about 8 weeks.
Shorter cancel and reschedule window
Since about 24 November 2025, you can cancel or move an A2 exam only up to 7 days before the exam date without losing the exam fee. Before that, the window was 14 days.
This is the change that can catch you out if you book early and then need to change plans. If your exam is too close, DUO no longer gives you the old 14-day margin.
Keep your exam dates somewhere visible and check them a little earlier than before. If you think you may need to move an exam, do not wait until the last week.
What stays the same at A2
The 2026 updates in this guide are about logistics, not about making the A2 exam harder. The A2 level stays A2.
The December 2025 extra-time option for Spreken does not apply to A2. That option is only for B1 Spreken candidates.
So for A2, the practical changes you need to remember are simple:
- your diploma is now digital by default from 1 January 2026
- your cancel or reschedule window is now 7 days, not 14
- there is no new A2 extra-time option for Spreken
If you want fewer retakes, steady practice matters more than these admin changes. InburgeringPrep helps you train the Dutch you need for the A2 exams, so you can book with more confidence and finish faster.
