Why it works

Train your ear for real Dutch.

Real conversations

Two Dutch voices in everyday situations — the GP, the market, the gemeente — spoken at a natural, exam-like pace.

Comprehension, not dictation

You answer questions about what you heard, exactly like the luisteren exam — the skill that actually gets tested.

Transcript when you're ready

Missed something? Reveal the full transcript with an English translation and see exactly what was said.

Common questions

How does this Dutch listening trainer work?

Pick one of 10 short conversations, press play, and listen. You can replay it — just like the real exam — then answer comprehension questions in Dutch. When you're done, reveal the transcript with an English gloss to check anything you missed.

What is the luisteren part of the exam like?

In the A2 inburgeringsexamen the listening (luisteren) part plays short conversations and announcements from everyday life, and after each one you answer a multiple-choice question about what you heard. It rewards understanding the gist and key details — where, when, who, how much — rather than catching every single word.

The audio is a bit fast — is that normal?

Yes. The voices speak at a natural Dutch pace on purpose, because that's what the exam and real life sound like. Play the conversation twice, focus on the key information the question asks about, and use the transcript afterwards to fill the gaps.

Is it free and does it need sound?

It's completely free and needs no login, but you do need your sound on — it's a listening tool. Headphones help you catch the details.
