Provinces and water
The KNM theme Geschiedenis en geografie (history and geography) includes simple geography facts about the Netherlands. DUO can ask where a city is, which province is shown on a map, or why a famous water project was built.
A known example is Amsterdam. DUO can show three maps of the Netherlands and ask which province is correct.

For this kind of question, you don't need long theory. You need to recognise a province on a map and connect a city to the right place. The wrong answers are often nearby provinces, so map practice matters.
Water is another fixed topic. The Netherlands is strongly linked to water management, and DUO has used the Deltawerken in sample material.

Why were the Delta Works built?
Correct idea:
Om Nederland te beschermen tegen de zee.

This fits the KNM exam style. The photo gives context, but the answer comes from your knowledge of Dutch society. DUO is testing whether you know the purpose of a national water project, not whether you can guess from the picture.
Key events
DUO also tests a few major history facts. The level is factual and short. You need to connect an event to the right period or meaning.
One clear topic in the 2025+ KNM exam is the Holocaust. The exam can ask when it happened.

That tells you how KNM history works. You are not expected to give a long explanation. You need to know the event, the period, and the basic connection. DUO can use wrong answers from nearby periods, so learn the right match clearly.
The exam theme Geschiedenis en geografie also became stronger on World War II, the Holocaust, and recognising antisemitism. For your preparation, focus on direct fact questions with short answers, because that matches the current exam style.
Symbols and holidays
KNM can also ask about national symbols. These are short recognition questions with one correct factual answer.
A known example is the Wilhelmus.

Correct idea:
Het Nederlandse volkslied.
The Dutch national anthem.
This kind of item is simple but easy to lose points on if you only studied grammar. KNM also expects civic knowledge: names, symbols, and what they stand for. The image may be symbolic, such as a word or an icon, instead of a real-life photo.
For holidays, the exam spec here does not list specific Dutch holidays or sample questions about them. So the safe takeaway is this: for this theme, study only the symbols and history facts that DUO is known to test, and don't build your preparation on old unofficial holiday lists.
What the KNM exam asks about this
For this topic, DUO asks knowledge questions, not opinion questions and not "what would you do" questions. The live exam uses multiple choice only, with three options each time.
