Mijn Inburgering: your personal DUO account
Mijn Inburgering (My Integration) is the official online portal managed by the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO) where every registered inburgeraar tracks their civic integration file. You see exactly which exam components apply to your profile, whether you take language exams at A2 level under the older 2013 rules or at B1 level under the Wet inburgering 2021 (Civic Integration Act 2021).
You use the portal to book individual exam sessions for reading, listening, writing, speaking, and Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij (KNM, Knowledge of Dutch Society). Because DUO issues exam results within eight weeks and requires you to book each exam part individually, knowing your exact obligations before reserving a time slot saves money on retake fees. You can view your exam results, check school invoices, inspect your loan balance, and download official letters DUO sends you. When you pass all required parts, your digital diploma is available to download directly from the portal as a PDF, which the IND accepts for naturalisation and permanent residence applications.
Keep track of scheduling deadlines inside your account.
Since 24 November 2025, you can reschedule or cancel an exam in Mijn Inburgering up to seven days before your appointment without forfeiting your exam fee. If you miss that seven-day window, you lose the fee and must pay DUO again to book a new slot. The portal handles the main central exams, but it does not book municipal trajectory components: you arrange the participatieverklaringtraject (PVT, participation declaration) and the Module Arbeidsmarkt en Participatie (MAP, labor market module) through your local gemeente (municipality).
Four core tasks you handle directly in your DUO profile:
- Check whether your dossier requires A2 or B1 exams
- Register for KNM and individual language test sessions
- Reschedule exam dates at least seven days in advance
- Download your official digital inburgering diploma
DigiD: the key to Mijn Inburgering and the rest of government
DigiD is the secure digital identity system used to log into Dutch government services, educational portals, and healthcare institutions. You cannot access Mijn Inburgering without an active DigiD account using two-factor security, either through SMS verification or the official DigiD smartphone app. The system ensures that only you can see your personal data, loan amounts, and exam history.
To apply, you must hold a burgerservicenummer (BSN, citizen service number) and have an officially registered address in the Basisregistratie Personen (BRP, Personal Records Database). You fill in the application online and receive an activation letter by physical mail within three to five business days at your registered home address. If you do not have a permanent home address, you can register a postal address with your gemeente. Never attempt to create a DigiD for someone else. Each account is strictly personal. Children aged 14 and older must also request their own DigiD.
Safety is a legal requirement.
Always type the web address yourself or use a saved bookmark rather than following a link sent in an email or SMS message. Legitimate agencies such as DUO, the Belastingdienst (Tax Administration), and your municipality never ask for your login details, passwords, or verification codes by phone or message. Since July 2025, digital security, privacy, and safe authentication methods form part of the tested curriculum on the KNM exam under the theme Instanties (Institutions). Preparing your digital access therefore doubles as practical exam revision. If you have not set up your credentials yet, you can apply for DigiD directly through the national portal.
DUO's official practice exams
DUO provides free practice software on its website so candidates can experience the real computer interface used at testing centers. These sample tests cover the A2 language skills—Lezen (Reading), Luisteren (Listening), Schrijven (Writing), and Spreken (Speaking)—as well as KNM. Practice exams are also provided for Staatsexamen NT2 candidates preparing for B1 and B2 assessments.
Run these practice tests on a desktop or laptop computer rather than a mobile screen. The practice exams mirror the computer interface used for Lezen, Luisteren, Spreken and KNM in DUO exam rooms; A2 Schrijven is written by hand. Note that the official speaking test software does not function properly in the Apple Safari browser, so you must use an alternative browser like Chrome or Firefox to complete speaking exercises. Writing tasks are provided as downloadable PDF documents that you print or write out manually.
DUO offers two clear advantages with these materials:
- You see the authentic question formats and screen layouts
- You hear the exact pacing and recorded voices used on exam day
While DUO practice materials are essential for familiarisation, they remain limited in volume. The government publishes only two to four practice sets per subject. Completing those tests confirms whether you understand how the software behaves, but they do not provide enough exercises to build vocabulary or correct persistent sentence structure errors. You can access DUO's practice exams at no charge before scheduling your appointment.
Finding a course with the Blik op Werk quality mark
Blik op Werk is the independent supervisory body that monitors and certifies quality standards for integration language schools across the Netherlands. Language institutes that pass its independent quality review, covering organisation, results and student satisfaction, with at least 80% of lessons taught by registered NT2 teachers, earn the Keurmerk Inburgeren (Integration Quality Mark). This quality stamp protects students from substandard providers.
Choosing a certified provider is a legal necessity for specific groups. If you finance your integration studies using a government loan from DUO, you can only spend that money at a school holding the Blik op Werk quality mark. Similarly, municipalities managing asylum status holders under the Wet inburgering 2021 must procure courses exclusively from certified schools. Candidates in the B1 route who struggle with language acquisition also need this accreditation: downgrading your target level from B1 to A2 (afschalen) requires completing at least 600 course hours at an approved Blik op Werk school alongside municipal approval.
The quality mark requirement does not apply to everyone.
If you pay for your language classes privately without any DUO loan or government subsidy, you are legally free to choose any private school or tutor you prefer. The academic Onderwijsroute (education route) also sits outside the Blik op Werk system, falling instead under the direct oversight of the Dutch Education Inspectorate. To find accredited institutions, search the quality register on Blik op Werk.
Free practice tools on inburgeringprep.com and how to combine everything
Official state portals manage your registration, but they do not provide daily drills or interactive feedback to improve your Dutch skills. Combining official administration with targeted self-study tools creates an effective routine that keeps your preparation on track without extra tuition fees. While DUO records your test bookings, interactive study platforms help you build the grammar and speaking confidence needed to pass on your first attempt.
At inburgeringprep.com, you can access dozens of free browser-based learning tools that require no account creation and work directly on your smartphone. An AI-powered writing evaluator checks your short Dutch emails against authentic A2 exam scoring criteria, pointing out word order mistakes and providing corrected model answers. The digital speaking coach lets you record sentences out loud to evaluate pronunciation, rhythm, and clarity before you sit in front of DUO's microphone. Dedicated grammar modules let you check difficult de and het noun articles, test separable verbs, and drill irregular past tenses.
Build a balanced weekly preparation routine:
- Use Mijn Inburgering to verify your required level, monitor your term, and book test dates
- Run official DUO sample tests once to understand the screen interface and time limits
- Use free online grammar and speaking trainers for daily ten-minute practice sessions
- Consult our Mijn Inburgering walkthrough whenever you need help navigating DUO letters or rescheduling tests
Practise consistently every day. Small study sessions build fluency faster than sporadic cramming, giving you total confidence on exam day.
