When your Staatsexamen NT2 uitslag arrives
Your staatsexamen NT2 uitslag appears in Mijn DUO about five weeks after the exam.
You also get your DUO exam results by e-mail and by post. The exam timetable on Staatsexamens NT2 gives the exact day and time for your sitting. DUO explains the steps on its DUO uitslag page for NT2.
Plan around those five weeks. You cannot register again for a part while you are still waiting for its result. A fail therefore means a waiting period before you can book the next sitting.
What your score means
You pass a part with a scaled score of 500 or higher. Each part is scored on its own, so one result never cancels another.
The score is not your raw number of points. CvTE converts points with a table for each exam, because the papers differ in length and difficulty. On the 2025 exam, for example, Spreken needed 75 of 128 points and Lezen 24 of 35. The Staatsexamen NT2 cesuur per part lists the other parts and years.
The scale itself also moves. CvTE gives average ranges of about 200 to 700 for Lezen, 100 to 800 for Luisteren and Spreken, and 250 to 750 for Schrijven. These vary per exam day. So a score of 480 is close, but it is still a fail for that part.
You cannot view your exam
The live exam is confidential. You cannot look at your own answers after the exam, and there is no answer review.
To find out where you lost points, take one of the published past exams in the Facet practice portal. Go through it with an NT2 teacher, or compare your answers with the official assessment model.
When something went wrong on exam day
A problem during the exam has its own route.
- During the exam: tell the examiner straight away. The examiner can fix some problems on the spot.
- After the exam: send a complaint letter to the College voor Toetsen en Examens within three weeks. E-mail it to the DUO NT2 desk at nt2@duo.nl.
- Illness or a death in your immediate family: report it to nt2@duo.nl within ten days of the exam, with proof. DUO then looks at a possible replacement exam.
How herkansen works for one part
You only resit the part you failed. The parts you passed stay passed.
You register for that part the same way as the first time, through DUO's registration page. Registration opens about eight weeks before each exam date. DUO publishes no limit on the number of attempts.
Each part costs €50, also when you sit it again, unless Mijn DUO shows you a free attempt. Under the 2021 law, the gemeente pays an asylum status holder's first two attempts per exam. See Staatsexamen NT2 costs.
Use the waiting time well. If only Luisteren or only Schrijven went wrong, study that one skill. Book the resit once your result is in and you feel ready.
Getting the diploma
You get the diploma once you have passed all four parts of Programma I.
If you passed your last part after 1 January 2021, DUO sends the diploma by registered post. It arrives within four weeks, and you do not need to apply. Did you pass all four before that date? Then e-mail nt2@duo.nl to exchange your certificates for a diploma.
Diplomas and certificates from after 1 January 2011 are also in Mijn diploma's in Mijn DUO. There you can download a free digital extract, which has the same value as the paper document.
The diploma does not expire. A school, employer or procedure may sometimes ask for recent proof, but that is their own rule.
What the result means for inburgering
On the B1 route, Programma I is how you prove your Dutch. Passing all four parts covers the language exams of your inburgering. KNM, the MAP and the PVT are separate requirements.
Did you take the A2 inburgeringsexamen instead? That result comes in a different way: see inburgeringsexamen results from DUO.
